In a sharp interview segment, Maj. Gen. (res.) Yitzchak Brik directly accused former Southern Command commander Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir (who served in the role about 5–6 years ago) of having **a central and direct responsibility** for the colossal failure of October 7, 2023.
Brik’s two main charges against Zamir:
1. **Zamir is the father of the “high-tech wall” concept that removed almost all human forces from the Gaza border**
– Zamir was the one who wrote and submitted the official operational requirement for the Gaza border fence.
– He demanded a sophisticated technological barrier (the famous “smart fence” or “high-tech wall”), **but deliberately excluded all the necessary manpower** around it: manned observation posts, sniper positions, tank positions, forward forces, and reserve forces.
– In Brik’s words, Zamir planted the first seed of the deadly conception that technology alone could stop Hamas.
– This concept remained in place long after Zamir left (continued by Aviv Kochavi and others) and became known sarcastically as “the Zamir Line” – comparable to the historic failures of the Maginot Line or Bar-Lev Line.
2. **As early as 2018, Zamir personally received precise intelligence about Hamas’s planned massive attack (“Jericho Wall”) – and completely ignored it**
– In 2018, Zamir was handed detailed intelligence describing Hamas’s exact attack plan, codenamed “Jericho Wall”.
– The attack that took place on October 7, 2023, followed that 2018 document **almost to the letter**.
– Zamir did nothing: no planning, no alerts, no proper handover to his successor – he simply buried it and acted as if the warning didn’t exist.
Brik implies that Zamir understands today that if the IDF only quietly retires reserve generals who have already left service, the blame might not come back to bite him. But if they touch a currently serving General or Deputy General, the responsibility will boomerang straight back to Zamir, because he was the first senior officer who had the full attack plan in his hands five years earlier and chose to ignore it.
In short: According to Brik, Eyal Zamir bears enormous personal responsibility for the October 7 catastrophe – both for creating and entrenching the empty “technology instead of soldiers” doctrine, and for being the officer who, already in 2018, held the precise blueprint of the coming Hamas attack and did absolutely nothing about it.
Comment: It is not only Eyal Zamir who has a conflict of interest regarding how to investigate the causes of the massacre, but many other segments of Israeli society (including the Judicial Activist, Judicial system) have built in conflicts of interests.
